The idea of banning wicked is hilarious, given that it’s been a wildly successful theater production & is being made into a movie. I would recommend the book-it applied when it was written and still applies today. I just understand why anyone would humiliate themselves by participating in a ban. 😑

Wow. They sure dragged out anthony burgess in list posted as reply To your post. i really enjoy his works, but Clockwork orange wasn’t my favorite, but am glad I read it. It was assigned reading in high school btw.

Ulysses by James Joyce. Though tame by today’s standards, it was banned and burned under the Comstock Act until “United States v One Book called Ulysses” ruled it non-obscene in 1932. This is an old fight. Keep fighting!

One thing I haven't seen anyone draw a parallel to is language. In 1984, language was actively altered to prevent dissent. We're seeing this everyday on platforms like TikTok when people have to use language like "pewpew", "grape", "PDF-file" & "music festival" in hope of being heard & understood.

In the book 1984, Big Brother uses New Speak to take away language that encourages critical thinking. In our world I think the resistance is using cryptic language that slow witted MAGA doesn't understand. The same goes for sarcasm which is like verbal cryptography to the slow witted.
