Basically, if you summed up all the actual damage, plus all those about to be kicked off health care and the deaths resulting, plus the USAID cuts, plus the disastrous covid response, which his party was part of, well, by the numbers, today's Republican party is hurting us so very much.

Unreal. Yes, if you don't have a "Certificate of Birth Abroad" when born to US citizens in a foreign country, it's a nightmare to prove citizenship. Many didn't have problems until "Real ID" began in the mid 2000s. That said, he has enough of a US history that it isn't impossible to sort out.

There's two distinct differences between Jermaine and Ted. Jermaine's parents were on government orders to live overseas, Ted parents voluntarily moved to Canada so that Ted's dad could travel to Cuba.

My husband was stationed in Panama and that’s where our daughter was born. She has dual citizenship and a certificate of birth abroad. I’ve been saying this is coming for a long time and people would laugh at me, thinking it was an absurd thing to say. Welp!

I think the article said the father is a Jamaican citizen but was a U.S. Soldier. It's all so messed up. He fought for this country, he and all of his children should be citizens of this country. Period. These are ridiculous games to increase deportation numbers, not to make the U.S. better. 😡

Nope. Or at least not exactly. I was born in the US (I have US citizenship). My parents moved to Canada when I was three months old. I moved back to the US 35 years later with my 10 yo son. He does not have US citizenship because I didn't live in the US for 5 years before the age of 16.

It should. It did in my case. It's considered to be 'in the service of the United States abroad' and the birth certificate is issued via the State Department. Missionaries' children receive the same.

I was born in Lahnstuhl when my dad was drafted into the Army. I have a birth certificate from the State Department. Something doesn’t pass the smell test here.

Did children traveling internationally not need passports in the 1980's? Because in order to get back to the US he should have had to have a passport. Babies born abroad are also issued Social Security numbers & I be he also had to register for the draft.

At the time of his birth, the law required that the citizen parent of a child born on a military base had been in the US 10 years. The court said his father had not fulfilled the 10 year requirement. This law has since changed, but the relevant law is whatever was in place at the time of his birth.

I was active duty, and my daughter was born in Spain and holds a U.S. Passport. About 4 years later, she got her Spanish Passport and now has duel citizenship. Yes, a military base is considered U.S. soil as with the U.S. Embassy.

I was born in Wiesbaden, West Germany (at the time) as my dad was in the Air Force and stationed there at the time. I am most certainly an American citizen. My brother was born in England when my dad was stationed there, and he is also most certainly an American citizen.

You have to file a registration of birth abroad with the American Embassy or Consulate, which in turn gives you a citizenship certificate. What I don't understand is how he even arrived in the US without a passport in the first place.

He was a child when his father was stationed in Germany. The registration with the Embassy or Consulate can be used to get a passport, but it’s possible he never got it renewed as an adult if he didn’t traveled outside of US as an adult. Only about 30% of US citizens have a passport.

Anything but moot. He ran for President and back then his opposition was trying to say that he couldn't run for President bc he wasn't born in the USA. But bc he was born on US property (military hospital) it was determined that his run for President was valid. This guy should be a citizen.

My father was born to a U S citizen abroad and needed to pass through Eli’s island as a young child to gain legal citizenship. Fun fact that many people don’t know about. Immigration judge even changed his name saying it would help him fit in this country. 🧐 True story!

Dad just didn't meet the residency requirements that were in effect at the time. I'm not saying it was right or wrong. Someone on this thread also mentioned about Ted Cruz, but the parental residency requirements were met for him when born.

The main question for ice and Homeland Security is, where are all the criminals and real gang members they’re supposed to be rounding up and deporting? Is finding them a problem, or are they scared of finding them because they know those guys will shoot and kill them? They’re cowards.
