I saw a Tiktok saying that he shouldn't have thanked the lazy devs, that all the growth was because of this streamer and I felt some sort of spiritual damage hit me

I had to look up and translate multiple things to understand this and now feel more informed and also depressed. Also kids spending too much money on Roblox doesn't count because it's their parents money!!!

Entering the lion’s den here. Those who contributed to the game’s success deserved thanks. It’s akin to advertising and marketing in a new sphere. These folks are a part of the sphere now for better or worse. The CEO did the right thing for his business and bottom line. It is what it is.

I think that the constant push to conflate "good for business" with "a good, defensible thing" (which I feel you are doing here) is a huge problem that is functionally eroding our society. Actual hot take: "the right thing for his business" is bad for us and "what it is" is a problem.

To me—and I don't pretend to be some arbiter of truth, but to me—responding to an article making a point of highlighting something as an issue with an explanation that it is just "good business" and "it is what it is" reads, contextually, as a dismissal of that issue.

"Forgive me for the harm I have caused this world. None may atone for my actions but me and only in me shall their stain live on. I am thankful to have been caught, my fall cut short by those with wizened hands. All I can be is sorry, and that is all I am"

Wonder to what degree this feeds into a bigger picture about how people talk about contemporary games - “trash”, “garbage”, “not worth it”, “waste of time” etc are common. This reaction reads to me as “you are nothing without us”.
