We are literally having a conversation on preferences of game styles to each individual. Also we have already been down the road of “are video games too violent?” .. let’s keep that debate in the box where we left it years ago
I won’t lie, that’s part of the reason I keep coming back to San Andreas. The ugly, blocky polygons aren’t *people*. The hyper-realism makes it uncomfortable for me, I game to relax, not desensitize my humanity.
Also there are plenty of people who would kill people driving to work if they weren't worried about getting arrested. Road Rage makes actual psychopathic tendancies.
People with empathy will probably feel weirder about it though.
That never stopped call of duty and (checks notes)
Literally every other game with guns ever regardless of human targets or no from being the target of pearl clutching.
Like, the writing realism of the consequences of violence in games like baldurs gate keep me from wanting to be super evil in them. But games where the violence is smoothed over don't create issue.
Almost like game producers know exactly how to make acceptable reasonable distance and targets
There's nuance here, but how games frame who it's okay to kill and why and how is inherently political, but I don't think rockstar cares about it /that/ much
If anything, this is a case of mistaking the ability to do something in a game for encouragement to do it. There's a difference between a rampage that only tallies rival gang eliminations and a player independently choosing to drive on the sidewalk.
Yeah but did you consider that the targets in GTA are poor innocent working class Americans and the targets in CoD are *vaguely gestures at the current empire boogeyman, most likely someone brown*
Are there kids? Can you walk into a daycare and beat each toddler to death one by one?
Or will a SWAT team blast down your door and shoot you before you get your pants on, end of?
No? Huh.
I mean, we're talking about an IP that used to be good until it began aggressively pandering to the lowest common denominators in its user base who wouldn't stfu (which is why GTA4 was the last good one).
Those LCDs are still gonna rampage because there's not a thought going through those brains.
hot take: actually not killing people and driving properly requires a skill level that most gamers just simply aren't at. They aren't good enough. prove me wrong
