The Open Visualization Academy (OVA) IS LIVE! openvisualizationacademy.org Thread follows #dataViz #infographics #dataJournalism #dataVisualization

This moment is the culmination of a career in information design, data visualization, and education that began in Spain in 1997. I believe that nothing I’ve done until now—the graphics I've designed, my classes, books, public talks, or MOOCs—matches the ambition and potential impact of the OVA. 2/x

For many years, I’ve dreamed of creating a platform where anyone could learn data literacy and visual communication. Thanks to my position as Knight Chair at the University of Miami, I’ve finally been able to turn that dream into reality. 3/x

We are launching with seven video courses and software tutorials, including my core course, Introduction to Visualization. Beginning in February, we’ll publish at least one new course every month. In April, I’ll also launch and lead a brand-new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). 4/x

We’re working on other major initiatives that I can’t yet disclose. To stay up to date, subscribe to the OVA newsletter: openvisualizationacademy.beehiiv.com 5/x

The OVA would not have been possible without the efforts of a large group of collaborators. You can find them all on our website, including @vsueiro.bsky.social , Melissa Strong, Michela Tjan, Larry Flores, and others. 6/x

Our instructors include @hannahdormido.bsky.social @frank.computer Hiram Henriquez @laurenfklein.bsky.social , @kanarinka.bsky.social Joy Victor, Ray Balise, @lmelgar.bsky.social @rodolfoalmd.nucleo.jor.br @ebertini.bsky.social and many others who will be producing content in 2026 and 2027 7/x

I hope you enjoy the Open Visualization Academy openvisualizationacademy.org. Help us spread the word: Tell colleagues, friends, and family about it; I've always believed that acquiring design and data reasoning skills can benefit anybody. 8/x
