Why I still keep my X for newsgathering purposes, but never post on it for as long as Elon Musk has a controlling stake over the platform

sarah jeong@sarahjeong.bsky.social

my hot take is that x is in fact still important for anyone following international affairs. but given how noticeably and publicly brains get pickled from x-immersion, i think anyone with a medical history of being a dope (for example, crypto-optimism) should practice self care and abstain

What I'm seeing is that Western journalists have essentially been potted plants in institutional greenhouses, so shielded from the realities of authoritarianism that they have zero immunity against new and old methods of propaganda, right as Trump blows the roof off the metaphorical greenhouse

sarah jeong@sarahjeong.bsky.social

i think that western journalists with limited or outdated experience with authoritarian propaganda environments don't know how much things have evolved in like, the last 15 years. like the degree to which propaganda is chaotic, distributed, insidious, memeified.
