Behold: the first-ever list of news outlets that have banned generative AI in their reporting. As of today, this is literally information that you cannot find on Google. My goal is to fill the starter pack, so please send over suggestions with supporting evidence! go.bsky.app/8cn1XfT

Really excited about this two-part copublication with @dialogueearth.bsky.social where we produced the Guatemala USAID feature, and Dialogue Earth produced the coral dispatch with bylines from *four* different countries, including our contributor @jreingold.bsky.social!

NEW: The ocean is setting new heat records with alarming rapidity, and the current El Niño phase is set to drive temperatures even higher. Corals face a bleak, bleached future. This is not only about the deaths of marine invertebrates, however.

I’m a longtime supporter of this publication. For me, the sweet spot is not too many emails in my inbox, and consistently excellent journalism with stories I am both interested in, and don’t find anywhere else. Its unique stories carry the pulse of what is happening everywhere.

I also don't think Rest of World made the case why they needed their readers strongly enough. And our world will all suffer as a result: the people who most benefit from their impending demise are Musk, Zuckerberg, Altman, Thiel, and the various bad actors in the AI-EV-military-industrial complex.

On the other hand, in my experience, Rest of World has been one of the more tedious news outlets to republish with. I don't think they have figured out a sustainable model other than "Sophie will bail us out", and relying on readership figures to make decisions in this AI age is frankly misguided.

Two things that Rest of World figured out very early on: financial backing from Sophie Schmidt, the daughter of the former Google CEO, and excellent journalism (The Xylom has syndicated a number of their stories) But I couldn't help but notice something was amiss with them in the past couple years:

What if, and hear me out, clothing companies paid any one of the 8 billion people on this Earth to model the clothes presumably made for humans?

On the one hand, American media has become more cowardly, insular, and jingoistic since the writing was on the wall that Trump would return to the White House. Visual, investigative, and international news are usually the first three to get the editorial and funding axe (don't ask how I know)

NEW: DSA's National Political Committee passed two resolutions today aimed at Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman, beginning processes that could result in DSA-LA being forced to rescind its endorsement of her this weekend and/or Raman herself being expelled from DSA by January.

To be even more pragmatic, the most important function of Nithya Raman is to create a massive population boom in Los Angeles so that California stops bleeding congressional seats to Florida, Texas, or Idaho, and the left gets an enraged voter base to primary all the septuagenarians in 2032
