hey for anyone who might want to actually own their kindle books instead of renting them, or who might be thinking of switching to kobo etc and will want to convert them to epubs, you now only have one week before amazon kills your ability to download its ebooks www.theverge.com/news/612898/...

theverge.comAmazon’s killing a feature that let you download and backup Kindle booksIt’s bad if you like to keep ebook backup copies.

I've been wanting to ditch my kindle and get a kobo for a while, it just hasn't been in the budget. I'll have to keep an eye out for a good deal on a refurbished basic model.

the clara bw is the most "basic" of the newer lines - i think it's $140 new - so definitely look for a refurb of that one. they DO have refurbished older models on the kobo website - i think there's a nia for like 80 bucks. don't know much about it tho

Thank you! I just read novels so I don't need anything with color or more advanced features.

i'm with you, and on top of that, e-ink color isn't even all that good yet. the only reason i bought the kobo libra colour is that it has physical page turn buttons, which i love

The kobo clara does allow for setting 'regions' on the screen to allow open-handed reading. Being a lefty, I got the top for previous, bottom for next. That works 'full width'. I missed my kindle keyboard buttons :-(
