I (probably obviously) disagree with John's POV here, but let's grant that all of what he says is true, and that X is good in all the ways listed in the post; let's even grant that's true for all demographics (it's not). It'd *still* be a site that pays known CSAM distributors at its owner's behest.

Normal people didn't used to hear, "this person built a platform that pays a man who published images of a 2-year-old being sexually abused" and ask "how are the sports scores there?" This is very recent development. Read this story, if you haven't. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

washingtonpost.comTwitter under fire for reinstating account that posted child sex abuseTwitter reinstated the account after some of its more than 500,000 followers complained that the account had been suspended for its political messaging.

Yes, it is probably worth reiterating how extreme a media bubble Twitter/X puts its users in; it's not enough that they feature white supremacists & fascists outside the mainstream — many are so hateful that they were suspended when the site still had a trust & safety team. bsky.app/profile/poli...

A very special kind of brain rot is needed to think "Apple executives post here, so it's cool," is a winning argument.

I mean, if your job is writing about Apple, that's not an insane type of information to want. It's just that you don't really have to go there to get it.

I think there's a bit of insecurity/fomo that happens for some people in tech, where they think "I have to be there to get DMs from [figure in tech/media circles]", so they stay. And it's just simply not true.

Sure, it's reasonable for him to want that information. But it's (hopefully) not a compelling argument for the audience of the essay.

X was the hub of the entire James Talarico conspiracy. The owner of the website, Elon Musk, amplified it. Why Democrats don't recognize that Elon Musk is an enemy of democrats and Democrats and X is his tool is beyond me.

As I saw someone else point out, the delusional clueless Dem leadership thinks that if the voters hand them an election, all the rightwing techbros will switch sides and give them money.

Musk has used the platform to attack every democratic and Democratic institution in existence over the last several years. It's insane that they're still on the platform.

And it's insane this unstable sociopath has any government contracts and a security clearance. Musk has infested the federal government and our national security agencies. It's not tenable and must be unwound.

Bc they have bought into the notion & the myth that Xitter has the marketing reach, the marketing power, the marketing speed based on numbers horribly inflated by bots & shill trolls Social media, unbridled & under-regulated is the Banality of Evil

Yep. And this is what angers people about Democrats. If they are so weak that they can't take on Elon Musk how can they be expected to deliver Medicare for All or any of the other grand things they run on? Getting big things done requires big fights and guts.
