But that's it! I have this theory, that the perceived value of a thoughtfully designed (maybe hand-coded) app and a vibed one will be a more relevant differentiator, just based on the effort and thought that went into it.
Similar to what happened with furniture when Ikea began competing with hand made, and hand made furniture's (perceived) value went up. It's more of a social change than the actual value changing.
Though this also means that there's less of the makers.
I've never really been employed in the industry and my productivity is kinda shit (it's gotten way better now that MY MEDS ACTUALLY FUCKING WORK though!) so in addition to the usual imposter syndrome I have some pretty valid reasons to believe I might be inadequate?
Anyways nothing cures me of my feelings of inadequacy faster than hearing people's stories about coworkers. Sure, I may not be nearly as good as most of the software engineers I hang out with but there sure are a lot of Real Actual Employed SWEs who I am reasonably confident I can outperform.
Funding bubbles are really bad for this, you get a lot of founders who don’t care who just want the free cash. When valuations come back to sanity we will likely see some really great companies created.
was thinking this recently too. one of the strangest things ive seen recently is that new "here's a computer thats just a GPU with no display ports" that is priced at a price point that makes zero sense
