Today Senator Blackburn is expected to try ramming KOSA--the Kids Online Safety Act--through the Senate via unanimous consent. KOSA was an Internet censorship bill in its inception, and in 4 years the only thing its authors have done is try to disguise KOSA's nature rather than fix it.

A few minutes ago, Blackburn sought unanimous consent for the No Fakes Act, another dangerous bill that would expand right to publicity laws past their traditional limitation to commercial use, which safeguarded protected expression. Senator Cruz objected to block it. But she's not done yet.

After Senator Blumenthal sought unanimous consent for KOSA, engaging in brutally transparent hand-waving of free speech issues, Senator Rand Paul stands up to object, and unanimous consent fails.

Dang. I step away for an afternoon and all this happens. I suppose they don't have enough time before the October recess for the full procedural rigmarole, and might try that in the lame duck... but the version dispute with the House will be a lot to overcome in that time frame.

... I'm (gut feeling) more worried that a Democratic House would go for the current Senate version of KOSA and pass it next term. Which'll be a new battle to fight, calling for new tactics, perhaps.
