New update: Really trying to leave the trashcan that X has become. I post rarely, but occasionally will offer a bad political take. #GuildWars2 #D&D

I was eating with a friend in a Greek restaurant the other day when a Muslim started his evening prayers. He was in the back, and he wasn't obtrusive. We lowered our voices a notch while he prayed, but otherwise carried on with our meal. Should we have done anything different?

"Fair market"? OMFG, **FARMERS** talking about a fair market? They are one of the most grossly subsidized industries in the US. The government: * Pays ~60% of crop insurance premiums. * Price Loss Loverage (PLC) * Marketing Assistance Loans (MAL)

FactPost@factpostnews.bsky.social

Tennessee farmer's fuel bill was $20,000 for just 2 weeks: "I wish they could see what it costs us to plant a crop and what we are getting paid... A farmer doesn't like a handout. He would rather have a fair market."

* No tax on Diesel fuel. *... ... CCRP, EQIP, DMC, fucking SUGAR subsidies forever. They are so used to the government teat that the loss of it feels like a loss of fair market.

This entire thread is really great, and useful, with lessons learned from the election in Brazil.

I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

Available of fresh fruits and vegetables. There is not really such a think a "seasonal produce". Wine availability from all over the globe. Really, anything that used to be limited but is not available via global trade.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

I think you're missing the Conservative point here. Then don't (well, Trump might, it's dumb) mean surgery. They mean calling a child "Tina" instead of "Tim". They mean letting them change into a skirt instead of the jeans they came to school in. That's what they are dog whistling.

This post is unavailable.

The Conservative narrative here is, "They are letting your kids do something that YOU DON'T WANT TO HAPPEN!" Yeah, it's somewhat turned into "surgery on school grounds", but the heart of the accusation is just, the teacher call them "Tina instead of Tony". (or Her instead of Him). That's it.

nytimes.comJames Talarico on the Rage Economy, Billionaires and Flipping Texas (Gift Article)Our interview with James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Texas.

The fact that this is the framing, and not the thousands of LGBT+ children who for decades have been kicked out of their home with nothing, is infuriating.

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

A Yo La Tengo benefit concert for James Talarico in deep blue Austin might seem like a strange place to meet Trump supporters. But over the sounds of a noisy Ira Kaplan solo, you can hear whispers that DEI is the reason a plate of migas costs $15.

BRETT KAVANAUGH: "Can you explain exactly how the consent would work?" Just saying... if *I* were Brett Kavanaugh, *I* WOULDN'T ASK A QUESTION SHOWING THAT I WAS CONFUSED HOW CONSENT WORKS! But maybe that's just me.

The undergrad reporter here was an absolute delight to talk to. She cares so much it hurts. Her anger at what is happening was very clear during the interview. At risk to getting piled on here, I would ask you and other here: pause and give some grace. We are all navigating this nightmare together

Ok wait. He only reads Male sci-fi. So.. who's he reading? (I would say Wrong Answers Only, but the Right Answers are also likely to be pretty bad, so let it all hang out).

Elizabeth Spiers@espiers.bsky.social

There's a guy in my replies who says he doens't read women because they write well about emotional conflicts and unrequited love and that's not what he wants. He reads sci fi he says. Can you imagine reading sci-fi and not reading Octavia Butler? Or Ursula K Le Guin? Or NK Jemisin?

The targeting of one data center is proving a really useful natural experiment showing which sites and ideologies are an echo chamber of Russian propaganda

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

Uh oh, did someone’s website and personal account experience a big drop in activity after Ukraine hit a Russian data center?

I wonder if he'll like this statue of himself?

Raider@iwillnotbesilenced.bsky.social

A 2.5-meter-tall statue depicting a naked, gold-covered Donald Trump has been unveiled inside the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The satirical sculpture, titled "Orange Plague" and also called "King of Injustice," shows Trump sitting on the shoulders of another man.

This is a really great quote.

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...

I didnt know it gets funnier than a whole ass United States Senator accusing a man of being at a Hawks game in ATL when he was at a Hawkeyes game in MD, BUT... He let every media outlet know he had a big moment coming so they all saw him clown himself and watched Amy Klobuchar clean up the pieces.

LostBoyJim reposted

Great thread. Revive the OTA! This is also why I do not support term limits in Congress (at least not until other issues are fixed), because they would increase the churn and lead to even more reliance on lobbyists to explain complex issues.

So, fun fact: ever since 1994, and Newt Gingrich's "Contract with America" campaign stunt, Congress has had a SERIOUS problem with subject-matter expertise and institutional memory. It's why Congress has such a deep and complicated relationship with lobbyists. 1/

Klobuchar has Schmitt dead to rights: "The game in fact was in Maryland. For a senator to have false information & imply, based on confusion about name of a team, that you were in another city & somehow involved that day in what was happening in Georgia & call you a 'dirtbag' deserves an apology"

Whether it’s Benjamin Netanyahu empowering Hamas, presiding over a massive intelligence failure that let them kill 1,200 Israelis on October 7th, and then killing 74,000 Palestinians in response or Zohran Mamdani pointing out that he did this, both men have fueled their bitter feud.

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

I wish our politicians would use the parable of Sodom and Gamorrah. For lack of 10 "Good men" the cities burned. We need 6 Representatives and 20 Senators from the GOP to impeach and remove him. We need 26 good people to save the nation.
