It took 50 years for the light to reach the United States from Dubai, that's why it was 250 for the rest of us.

Moving everything off audible and combining it with my non-audible content on a self-hosted audiobookshelf server turned out to be such a clutch move with exactly zero of the headache I expected

I'm sure some muppet will be along shortly to explain how this is "cancel culture"

NEW on @zeteo.com — Venues are *pulling out* of hosting Vivek Ramaswamy for his bus tour across Ohio in the closing days of the election. “We’re getting calls that people don’t want him there,” a top Ohio Republican says. “It’s that damn ad.” From @andrewperez.bsky.social and @swin24.bsky.social:

The hand-wringing over the Lindsey Graham thing "because he's not here to defend himself" strikes me as absolute bullshit. People who seek positions of enormous power and influence are not entitled to the sanitized legacy they'd give you. They should be remembered for who they really were.

And Lindsey Graham should be remembered as someone who, on his very best day, was a sniveling coward with a moral compass that pointed only to power.

Obviously enough were still open to offer the National Guard a free sandwich 💁‍♀️

Trump: "In Washington, all the restaurants were closing. People were being held up. They'd walk into a restaurant. Like Jesse James. 'Stand up! Give us all your money.' They're eating dinner at a fancy restaurant. All the restaurants were closing."

"I don't want to he in the hospitality business I just want to make quick easy cash *pretending* to be in the hospitality business" is not the sympathetic argument airbnb hosts seem to think it is.

Caroline Haskins@carolinehaskins.bsky.social

Airbnb is banning its hosts from making guests do things like “stripping the bed, taking trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes.” The hosts....are not taking it well: www.wired.com/story/airbnb...

Sometimes I look back and still wonder what my roommate 13 years ago received in the mail from Wang Gang on Hangdong Road

I *really* need to find a way to remember that the baseline for my mother's recipes is "feed everyone you know, plus maybe the 78th infantry division, you know, just in case they show up unexpectedly" servings.

I sometimes wonder whether it's because people tend to show up at my parents' house for meals with little or no warning, or if they show up *because* they know there will always be plenty of food for guests.

If I want to watch a movie about a fake businesswoman who talks like a fucking weirdo, I'll watch Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, not 3 hours of Elizabeth Holmes

Because standing is an Article III requirement that the Court has to address irrespective of whether it was briefed or raised by the parties? It's quite literally an issue in every case.

ElieNYC@elienyc.bsky.social

ACB: I want to ask about standing KBJ: You all didn't breif standing. Is that an issue in this case? Translation ACB: I want to talk about my pet issue KBJ: Why? Why do we have to indulge your bullshit all the time?

One day, when I have a stronger will to live, I will look up the amount I've spent registering spite domains over the years...

Jake Paul: "I get confused by the left, the protesters. Do they not have jobs? That's all they do is carry signs around while we're doing the work." (Note the lack of crowd response to this.)

Don't know how many times one has to say this. If you truly think it all doesn't matter because they will just "ignore it" or whatever, then why are you even freaking out? According to you there's nothing that can be done and the law means nothing so maybe just go try to enjoy life as best you can.

Chris Geidner@chrisgeidner.bsky.social

And, specifically, when you insist on replying to me with it — and I do not mean good-faith questions or analysis, but rather knee-jerk "they'll ignore it"/"there are no consequences" pablum — you tell me that you (1) don't actually know what's happening and (2) aren't attempting to understand.

Coffeemate really must have thought weird methy looking guys who get sexually aroused by shitty coffee was the audience to target with that commercial, for reasons that escape me...to put it mildly.

#PracticeTip: Don't confess to crimes in the newspaper

Guilfoyle's corruption is so shockingly transparent that it seems to have almost slid into the background how COMPLETELY INSANE it is that a lawyer voluntarily publicized such self-incriminating material (even considering his four bar suspensios).

Like...did you think that you become a whistleblower when you tell the world about your own criminal attempt?

Livetweeting the court hearing on ABC v FCC. ABC wants the court to stop the FCC's hearing on early renewal of ABC's licenses plus all other retaliation against ABC's speech in violation of the First Amendment. Threshold question is the court's jurisdiction: Must ABC wait for a final order to sue?

"We each contribute something different ... Justice Thomas has clearly thought out, coherent ideas about the meaning of various provisions of the Constitution" is a pretty funny unintentional self-own.

In doing some reading about the length and arc of recovery from moral/societal panics, it actually surprised me (though perhaps it should not have) how many people are still all-in on the MSG scare. What a remarkably terrible culinary existence that must be.

Today Senator Blackburn is expected to try ramming KOSA--the Kids Online Safety Act--through the Senate via unanimous consent. KOSA was an Internet censorship bill in its inception, and in 4 years the only thing its authors have done is try to disguise KOSA's nature rather than fix it.

A few minutes ago, Blackburn sought unanimous consent for the No Fakes Act, another dangerous bill that would expand right to publicity laws past their traditional limitation to commercial use, which safeguarded protected expression. Senator Cruz objected to block it. But she's not done yet.

After Senator Blumenthal sought unanimous consent for KOSA, engaging in brutally transparent hand-waving of free speech issues, Senator Rand Paul stands up to object, and unanimous consent fails.

hear me out: maybe the problem is that oaths of office don't include a slap across the face.

The dig at the Senator from Missouri about knowing Midwest sports teams was pretty savage. Gotta respect it.

Klobuchar has Schmitt dead to rights: "The game in fact was in Maryland. For a senator to have false information & imply, based on confusion about name of a team, that you were in another city & somehow involved that day in what was happening in Georgia & call you a 'dirtbag' deserves an apology"
