Not from the PNW but the way they’re growing + color makes me think of wine caps maybe? Take with a grain of salt ofc cuz I’m not from the area or examining them personally :3

Occasionally. It's very environment- and substrate-dependent. Armillaria group can look quite varied.

Idk but this makes me think of the birders term “LBB” which can encompass a wide number of birds that can’t be quickly or properly identified eg “Did you see what that guy was in the bush?” “Yeah! It was an LBB!” (little brown bird)

what's funny is entomologists have the same term but it's Little Brown Beetle
