This could end up being the beginning of a civil war in the ranks of the military. Some officers will rebel against obvious illegal orders, and may take some of their men with them. This happened an 1860, when half the officers trained at West Point went with the Confederacy, and half went Union.

To say it in a simple way : If the USA are threatening allies, then the #NATO no longer exists. If the allies realize this, then the USA will have to close military bases in Europe and find itself absent from the Russian zone of influence. US = Very strong and very isolated.

American Troops are not going to be sent anywhere to fight for America unless it's to support Russian or Israeli aims. If I was the other members of NATO I would be drawing up contingency plans to fight against the U.S. which, under Trump, is surely giving all NATO intelligence to Putin.

American troops are going to be deployed to serve beside Russians. The European states can make this a much more difficult proposition by shutting down US bases in Europe. American military can make this much harder by refusing to accept unlawful orders. But Hegseth is firing senior ranks.

I grew up in an era when the USSR was a huge threat. Fear of a nuclear attack. We really didn’t know much about the Soviet Union. Brave diplomats and politicians made an effort to normalize relations and that worked for a while. Putin, however, has had a plan from Day One. 25+ years.
