When Bolsonaro tried the same thing in Brasil he was charged with election interference, and condemned by the electoral justice, losing his political powers for 8 years and taking him out of the race even before he was charged with the coup accusations that ultimately sent him to jail.

In Brazil elections are run by a dedicated branch of the federal judiciary. And the whole system is unified and integrated. We do digital voting since 1995, and nationwide election results are known hours after the last polling station closes.

I watched the terror of the insurrection as it was happening. I actually took a picture of my TV so appalled that a so call flag for Jesus was flying in the midst of violence. Where were those cowardly republicans then on that day as we citizens watched in horror.

The real crime is all the Republicans in Congress and party officials also knew Trump lost but consciously decided to back Trump’s effort to undermine the election process and incite a violent insurrection. They only became concerned when realizing Trump’s rioters wouldn’t know/care who they are.

Add in social media with bad actors like Russia and China putting in misinformation and you have this mess. Plus the personal biases of voters are a huge factor too. We have had two qualified female candidates, yet voters refused to elect them to the office. Voters have to take responsibility too.

When voters don’t read newspapers anymore or do research on the candidates, this is the result of it. Trump has never had to figure out how to make a paycheck stretch, how to pay for healthcare, or have to visit a food bank. He’s never had to do any of these things.
