"There’s one other big unknown here. The document declaring the opening of Operation Puppet Master contains another vague reference: It says this effort has also been sanctioned under something called 'Operation Keyhole.' Yet it’s unclear what this even is." — @gregsargent.bsky.social

“Operation Puppet Master” because these clowns don’t think organic protests are possible, that sympathizing with immigrants is possible, that violence on American streets perpetrated by the government is a big deal and some rich democrat must be funding the protests. Fucking morons.

What?! Giving a President a private army was a mistake?! Pity there were no people whatsoever screaming a warning about it for the past 25 years that everyone could have listened to. Anyway, oust every Democrat who refuses to vow to abolish it. Keep at it until they're all gone.

I bet it ends up being real dumb. This administration strikes me as one that would put more of its focus on the mission name than the actual mission

You're probably right, which makes their attempt at focusing on names even more pathetic: - Operation Epic Fury - Operation Dirtbag - Operation Catch of the Day They sound like 12yo douchebags. I'm sure Operation Patriot Eagle Laser Fang, Operation Trans Cage, and Operation Kill Brownie are on deck

Today's code names for operations tend to be grandiose or too revealing. They used to be genteel and misleading — they're code names after all. I'm thinking of such classics as Operations Market Garden, Torch, Paperclip, Chastise, Dragoon, Mincemeat, and of course Overlord.

The best part of being in a shadowy governmental cabal has got to be coming up with cool sounding names for your wildly illegal operations. There's got be meetings in Outlook calendars where they brainstorm that, and I think that's great

I’ve just gotten to the point where I totally expect that every word out of my mouth, even when spoken to my dog in the privacy of my home, is being listened to by someone, or at least recorded. Personally? I don’t give fuck if anyone hears me, but the sense of invasion is creepy.

These operation names scream 1960's Batman and Robin awaiting their doom, trapped in a giant teacup while an enormous percolator heats up sulfuric acid to dissolve them.

This makes me feel nostalgic for the good ol' days of my childhood when J. Edgar Hoover was tapping every activist's phone and I witnessed my mom's workplace being raided by the FBI looking for domestic terrorists. Things were so much better then!

The attempt at coercion sounds a lot like things the FBI did to muslims during Bush II and afterward, offering to set them up with weapons to carry out terrorist attacks that the individuals would probably not have attempted on their own.

We have been declared the Enemy. We are the Radical Left Wing Lunatics. We are surprised because we thought we were mild-mannered thinkers reacting to a very public display of cruelty and fascism in an atmosphere of the right to freedom of speech. And there’s a huge compliance machinery looming.

Anyone who’s been paying attention is not surprised. Trump is a weak, insecure, inadequate man who holds, arguably, the most powerful position on the planet. And, like most weak, insecure, inadequate people, he’s desperate to make sure no one can surpass him…or take steps to unseat him 😏

One agent seemingly attempted entice violence from a group that believes in non-violence. Surely, those "Puppet Master" agents cannot fathom the existence of all the good non-violent people who actually volunteer to help people here, and even volunteer aid to populations outside of the U.S.

Every authoritarian and authoritarian wannabe does this - because they are weak and insecure and try to project power by getting people to police themselves because Big brother may be watching at any moment

Good article. But the headline is misinformation: Much of the activity described has little to do with Trump, & everything to do with the people around him, the Conservative think tanks who provide his agenda, & the donor networks that fund the GOP.

It’s really Operation Manufacture Evidence: HSI spying on local left-leaning group meetings. Like, at churches and stuff. “…there wasn’t actual criminal activity to be investigated. They had to invent it. That’s not how this is supposed to work—not in this country, anyway.”
