SCOTUS just nullified criminal conspiracy. You CAN be indicted and convicted of conspiracy even if the crime is never carried out. Conspiracy is a separate, "agreement" crime. The law punishes planning and agreement because a group working together to commit a crime is viewed as highly dangerous
