tech-wise, everything has been basically boring and the same ~2009-2025 and now a billion things are all hitting at once. llms, robotics, 3d printing, all this stuff that existed but kinda sucked has all gotten exceptionally powerful faster than you can blink

They got *a lot* faster and much more reliable. I bought a prusa mk4s from a friend second-hand last year and had to do a grand total of zero maintenance since. The print beds are much nicer than what we had years ago, can just do all my materials on same sheet. It's acting as an appliance for me.

(was replying elsewhere bsky.app/profile/did:...) As I have more characters now: Others do many other things too, but this is what I'm into using it for, and being able to treat it as an appliance and not a project, and having it just work after I turn it on after a month is really nice for that.

I'm using it for functional parts primarily. Parts for attaching things (e.g. on an IKEA Skadis pegboard), enclosures for projects, replacements for lost parts, stands for devices. Printed a bunch of tiny screen edge protectors for the pebble time 2 yesterday as reportedly the glass is fragile.

oh I guess I'd say that it really hit 3d printing two years ago or so though, that's when some of the faster printers dropped. then some threw in laser etchers to the tool head, new approaches on multi material printing (less waste & faster), etc. p cool stuff but not worth upgrading for me yet!
