Okay, I collected some data on the NodeSchool "workshoppers", as listed on nodeschool.io. For simplicity, I excluded ones that aren't terminal-based npm-installable things. Some fun facts in thread. 🧵 To start off: None have had any updates since 2022. Would have expected older. 1/

All use a workshopper "framework". There are 3 (ish) of these, namely: * workshopper (and its forks) * adventure * workshopper-adventure All the most recently updated ones use workshopper-aventure, which is a kind of combo of the previous two formats. 2/

The 10 most downloaded in the past year are: learnyounode (66827) javascripting (26051) how-to-npm (7454) makemehapi (4543) learnyouhtml (3894) expressworks (3580) stream-adventure (2627) how-to-markdown (2547) functional-javascript-workshop (2392) learnyoureact (2307) 3/

Most chapters of NodeSchool meetups seem dead at this point, likely due to the pandemic. Between that and the state of the workshops, I think we're probably long past the end of an era. But It doesn't have to be this way. We can bring this concept back, if we want to! 4/

I think that if this concept were to come back it would only really make sense as some kind of domain-focused open school (where the domain is not a specific platform or technology, like Node) using a similar pattern

Many thanks to everyone who ever wrote or maintained one of these workshops or NodeSchool chapters or the NodeSchool website, and particularly to folks like @leichtgewicht.bsky.social (and others!) who worked to maintain some of these workshops well after their original authors have moved on! 5/end
