have said it before and will say it again: Bluesky Chat/DMs are not E2EE. don't put anything sensitive in there you wouldn't want rando law enforcement to pore over. use it to exchange Signal contact info. consider "disappearing messages". do it by habit, get your friends+fam to also.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason that isn't just described on the Chat page (even one line like "Reminder: Bluesky DMs are not end-to-end encrypted." might go a long way towards reminding people)?

you need to be specific when you say "Signal collects your metadata the same way that WhatsApp does". what metadata? is it IP address or something else? also, Signal has passed many audits and is open-source. the blog post you linked is full of misinformation, too.

In the case of Apple "AI", yes, they send any semi complex query/prompt to ChatGPT. However, with a NPU, Copilot can and will run locally on your windows device. Same with any pixel 9 and above, Gemini Nano runs locally on the device, again unlike Apple.

has anyone on the team done any research on DIDComm for this yet? totally understand if it's not a high priority, but seems to me you could get pretty good secure 1:1 DMs fairly easily with it

we have had some early design discussions, but we don't have anything concrete to share yet. we have a couple other protocol things to wrap up before we really give it attention
