We’ve gone from “natural climate variability on the timescale of geologic eras means humans aren’t causing modern climate change” to “natural climate variability over geological eras means AI-driven solar radiation modification is the only sustainable climate solution”

Rather than the generally accepted scientific position that SRM is, in the best case, a temporary band aid because it would require constant maintenance to avoid the dangerous and abrupt change of a termination shock…

we’ve got “SRM requires developing and placing Earth’s climate in the charge of an infinitely long lived super AGI because it requires constant maintenance to avoid the dangerous and abrupt change of a termination shock”

True. But they are focused on the really long-term problem of the sun becoming a red giant - which, while perhaps not particularly salient right now, is in fact going to be a problem in a few hundred million years...

Not in Musk’s universe.

Right. Solar geoengineering only buys time if durable CDR ramps to gigatonnes, and current delivery is around 0.6 Mt/yr across all pathways. Treating removal as a done deal to justify sunlight dimming inverts the risk stack.
