Right, so video game company stocks are crashing because the power of AI supposedly renders them irrelevant. Meanwhile, Microsoft and Oracle stocks are crashing because they spent too much on AI and the market knows they'll never make a return. The economy is absolutely hosed

The idea that technology like this can or should ever be used to produce games anyone would want to play just seems insane to me. I wonder if this is investors saying "games are about to become unplayable dogshit which no reasonable person would invest in."

I’ve also just learned that the “generated game” video is literally just a 1:1 spat out video of Fortnite stolen from a review. Which really just makes it all just that much dumber.

It's absolutely wild that investors just believe the lies. Why do they keep doing that? It's all clearly proven as lies at this point, AI has never done any of the shit it's been hyped up to do.

Because you've got to keep believing the lies until the peak of the bubble then pretend you knew all along after you've unloaded your position on another sucker or got the government to bail you out.

It was insane, but I can get my head around what led to the 2008 financial crisis. Right now it feels like there are four or five equivalent shitshows happening in various sectors. I don't think anyone can actually grasp all of it.

so they're jumping ship to another form of media they either don't understand (charitable) or regard diminutively (probable), that they think will be a money printing machine once AI supplants it?

I use Debian KDE already for other reasons, but Linux Desktop Environments are still rough to use and have a long way to go, so I'd rather Microsoft just made Windows behave.

So our literal hope is... I am not kidding... that Microsoft etc grew so large during the ai bubble that their "crash" will still leave them bigger than they were 10 years ago. Partially because they have just so much cash on hand...

And previously as an older US adult thinking retirement savings, moving some of my money into cash and having high yield savings accounts would protect me - as interests rate fall, inflation has risen so much that, that money is worth less even with the addition of the earnings...

it's definitely shifted a little bit from even just a few weeks ago, but there's definitely still some AI mania left and will be until there's some kind of big crash or whatever that puts the final nail in the coffin of all that stuff for a while.
