He/him. Originally from the Finger Lakes, moved to the Canadian prairie. Not because it rhymes with my name, but I don't mind that. Lawyer in two countries, competent adult in neither.

JFC. This isn't even medieval. They knew damn well about Arabic sciences (and translations, etc.). Fuck these people forever.
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
I love that the basic objection here is "how dare the Democrats play politics with this election???" www.rawstory.com/trump-epstei...
Jesse Ventura is quickly falling into a Curtis Sliwa role for me: a guy I have a pronounced fondness for but whom I want nowhere near any position of authority.
Jesse Ventura to Piker: "Here's what pisses me off -- I did 2 tours, 17 months. So did my brother. Southeast Asia. That was at the same time Donald Trump was running and hiding like the coward he is. Why didn't he join us in the Vietnam War? I've heard him talk. He said he should be a general!"

Judge Furman rules that Maureen Comey's firing violated separation of powers. Orders backpay. Govt's arguments violate 2 centuries of SCOTUS rulings & would "unsettle the equilibrium established by this Nation's constitutional system." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Yeah, that's a weird one, but I trust Ms. Wheeler's intuition.
For some reason DOJ is asking for a protective order regarding polygraphs in the Brian Cole case (the accused pipe bomber). It may have to do with his attempt to graymail DOJ over the Shauni Kerkhoff part of the investigation. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Aww, R.I.P. Always just seemed like a sweet guy, somehow. "Where are the nuclear wessels?" is maybe the best line in the best Star Trek movie (rivaled only by "double dumbass on you!").
My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

NEWS --> Dems are planning novel ways to wield power of the purse against Trump's corrupt prosecutions of critics like Ilhan Omar if they win House. Reps Pramila Jayapal and Jamie Raskin tell me a range of aggressive tactics will be deployed. Details in my new piece: newrepublic.com/article/2171...

My second essay on how under Trump we’ve already gotten used to a level of fascism, authoritarianism, and corruption that would be unthinkable to us just years ago. Today: The corruption of the Justice Dept and *EIGHT* scandals on par with Watergate: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/trump-s-ty...

All of this. I am not saying anyone's beliefs are invalid, but there is a historical reality which should be acknowledged. This is why I always tend to call the modern practice "Gardnerian Wicca" to make the provenance front and center.
not trying to start fights about witchcraft with neopagans on my facebook page but people be posting some nonsense. there was never a witch cult. "witch" was always an accusation, never an identity

With 83% of the vote counted nationwide, Lula has stretched his lead to 2.8 million votes. That's a lead of 51.4% to 48.6%. That puts him on track for a victory that could be larger than his 1.8% win four years ago, which would be an immense comeback. He's even up in Minas Gervais now, by 0.6%.

The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.
Ms. Oyer knows infinitely more about pardon jurisprudence than I do, but I can't help but feel that this is still a bit on the side of irrational optimism. www.rawstory.com/trump-pardon...

Honestly, a prison cell is a hell of a lot nicer than he deserves.
Miller deserves everything that's coming. He's afraid of state prosecutors because a presidential pardon only covers federal offenses; and beyond prison, there's also future congressional investigations and civil lawsuits. www.rawstory.com/rs-exclusive...

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

This is seriously concerning. So much rides on this election -- the safety of the Amazon, people's rights, oversight on corruption, whether the US's expanding secret war in latin America will get a new partner -- and local far right leaders look to be trying to shut out voters and steal the election
