9/11 gave us the Department of Homeland Security, which gave us ICE. Things got worse after 9/11 and stayed that way

There are already articles circulating trying to rewrite history and say America was great after 9/11 and united and thoughtful and just a reminder that that period was marked by intense and insanely racist hatred, paranoia, and a frothing desire for unhinged violence and oppression.

DHS just made it easier to see the rot within the immigration system. The PRE-DHS INS/USCBP were no different than the current ICE/CBP. Just harder to recognize.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of 9/11, keep in mind that what would be called The Patriot Act had been drawn up a couple of years earlier, just waiting for the right justification to put it into play.

I’d say that all of the evidence from events since that day indicates that Bin Laden was successful beyond anything he could have possibly envisioned. 9/11 expedited a process in the United States by which the political system and society have become increasingly more toxic resulting in Trump.

Well I think given how much the United States has lost from its various adventures in the region that it likely was has been the success he wanted - albeit in quite a different manner than he would have predicted.

Anyone who even remotely “looked Muslim” got treated like a terrorist. Including Sikhs, for example. Nothing was united after 9/11 except for white hatred and violence

When I was in law school, there was a joke about 'the emergency exception to the warrant" requirement. That evolved just as you said-- now it's the 'possible immigrant' exception to the warrant requirement.

9/11 was also the turning point for US media, particularly political coverage. That’s when they started shirking their basic responsibilities and began taking direction from politicians and the parties - esp the GOP.

In that way it was a wildly successful operation. And it was just the beginning: FSB's 'russia today' hadn't even begun airing in America & "social" media was barely a scifi concept... Osama et al really brought on the US' downfall, by cementing conservatives' hold over the nation & its narratives
