Liberals have this mental model they keep trying to update where they try to fit the words and actions of right wingers into a consistent moral framework while in reality what the right believes is "I should get everything I want" and "I can say or do anything to get that"

Like, you can say they're hypocrites I guess but it's much more accurate to say that they're people who've completely strangled their moral capacity; they simply do not have an ethical core or meaningful values, they just say whatever is convenient in the moment. Bad faith as a way of life.

A pretty astute observation, actually. The thing we may be forgetting is we are hearing the caricatures of human beings representing different factions right now as in I do not fully believe the right is all set & READY to lay down leftists bc their government is trying to encourage it. Maybe anyway

And then try to counter that moral framework with facts and logic. It’s never going to work. In the Obama era you could say “well you know insurance premiums are down 11% since Q1” and the response would be “OH YEAH BUT BENGHAZI!” We’re not speaking the same language, and don’t share facts.

I think liberals do not have the capacity to understand because it is too far from normal human behavior. As we experience it day to day. The only way we can come close is if we all get advanced degrees in abnormal psychology. Maybe then.

Third Way was a philosophy espoused by Bill Clinton in the US and Tony Blair in the UK, that historically left parties should tack to the center/right to avoid continuing the losses from the 80s In the US, the GOP responded by tacking further right and refusing to cooperate in governance

The Democratic Leadership Conference (DLC) was the organization left over from the Clinton era that still espouses this philosophy. As Dems currently have a gerontocracy, lots of those national Dems still support this, even though it hasn't worked since 1994

The right do the inverse, assuming that everyone else is as self-interested as they are, which is how anything unselfish anyone does is immediately condemned as "virtue signalling". Of course, this is not actually a problem for the right because it turns out their methods work fine either way.

I keep beating this drum because way too many on the left don't get it: MAGA is not hypocritical or inconsistent in wanting special privileges, because they genuinely believe in their inherent superiority over "others". Fascists are not failed liberals. They do not believe in human equality.
