These people will never shut the fuck up and make something worthwhile with their stupid slop machines but they will endlessly whine and whine and whine and whine about not getting credit for being able to pull the arm on a slot machine. Simply not enough scorn heaped upon them yet.

In defence of AI slop: we should embrace open access to creativity, not condemn it Look past the Donald Trump superhero memes and the new software gives us the chance to democratise creative production. No wonder art’s cultural gatekeepers are worried ✍️ Jack Riley https://bit.ly/3SpzFQ4

All you worthless wastes of skin have had TWO+ YEARS with these tools now. Go make something undeniable. Go make something people can't help but take notice of. You fucking can't, and honestly I don't think it's the "tools" I think you are all personally devoid of a soul.

The reality of it is that none of you losers want to make art. If you wanted to make art you'd shut up and go do it. What you want is attention and recognition and praise and frankly you'll have a better shot at it quitting your job to become a human pet.

I can't make art, at least nothing anyone would want including myself. People create slop because it's safe and there's no personal liability. People would try and claim they could do my job too from a YouTube video if screwing it up didn't result in injury and death.

Every artist started out being unable to draw. If you convince yourself you'll never be an artist, you'll never be an artist. They literally sell this crap by convincing you that you can't make art, you'll always be a creative failure. You have to use their tool. It's an insult. Why accept it?

Safety is a huge part. If I draw anything it's undeniable that on some level I tried. Even if it's just a cock and balls on a chalkboard I still tried something and as a result a part of me is exposed. With a prompt I'd never have to step out of my comfort zone. I'd always have the AI to deflect on.

the funniest thing is there's arguably only one thing that exists that actually fits the bill and it's "we are charlie kirk." if you knew nothing about it that would on its own tell you everything about ai

Every now and then I see one of these guys going "look at this amazing thing I made with AI, all you artists are on the way out, this is the future" and it's ALWAYS just a re-creation of existing famous work that looks crappy and entirely fails to understand the original work.

The things that go the most viral and get the most attention are an absolute vacuum for creative intent or originality. "I made a trailer for princess Mononoke" "I remade the last scene from Space odyssey" etc etc. So... at BEST you have no ideas, and resort to remaking a beloved movie, but worse?

The intent is normalizing that misinformation for mental manipulation on behalf of minority oligarch control. So no matter the slop resistance they will continue to imperil us with even the data centers themselves.

Because creativity was unattainable to the lower classes all these years due to the exorbitant cost of bic ballpoint pens (a dozen for a dollar on Amazon as we speak) and 99¢ notebooks, don’tcha know!

Brian Biggs (who's a professional illustrator) made a youtube video where he drew in his normal style using pencils he picked up off the ground outside a school on his walking route... He was surprised how good they were. "these pencils are perfectly fine for drawing with."

The paper and sharpener he uses are high end... but the pencils he legitimately found on the ground. One of them is an amazon basics pencil (~8 cents) With graphite pencils, there -is- a difference between the cheapest and most expensive ones. But not a big one. Cheap ones are perfectly fine.

why this person is writing an article defending slop? Just quit the job and let an IA to write it. That would be a very "open creativity" approach

it's telling that the example he got for something "fun" made with AI is at this point over a year old. it's all entirely juiceless!

Oh god I hadn't even noticed that! He's arguing that this junk gives him "infinite access to creativity" or whatever, and uses a generated image for his article, but... even with this amazing magical perfect tool he doesn't make his own image? he uses someone -else-'s old AI image for his article?

Did I miss the part where "creativity" cost money? Some of the best art is made by people creatively using materials and mediums freely and readily available... And libraries exist!

I started out sketching by using a cheap mechanical pencil and a stack of printer paper that I "borrowed" from my office... For half a year I didn't use any other tools at all, and I grew SO fast. Drawing and writing are some of the cheapest possible hobbies to get into. They're basically free.

I don't tend to judge hobbies and entertainment in terms of "hours of fun per dollar spent" but if I did, I'd say a videogame is "good value" if it's entertaining for at least on hour per dollar spent. A decent pencil and ream of printer paper will cost you $10 and give you 500 hours of fun.

I really hate the whole LLM "we're democratizing art" bs because... you need at least a PC or a phone (which are expensive) and then to even use their crap "properly" you need to buy tokens or a subscription or whatever, and even THAT's limited. That's not more accessible than a pencil and paper.
