I am indeed being negatively polarized by the AI people towards a position along the lines of "software, in general, beyond the question of AI, needs a sort of revolutionary terror in which many people lose their heads and many things are burned down"

the very very stupid reality is that this has been coming for a long while, and AI is what they see as their last best hope of escaping it i want to find everyone who told me i should "go into computers" and give them a long hard talk

Many of you have spent your careers building systems that are meant to exploit and demean their users. In fact, I'd say the average phone app is a system meant to exploit and demean its users, and most of us interact with these systems multiple times a day. You need struggle sessions.

A square millimeter of grainy egirl areola jpeg carries more positive social value than your entire lives. Repent! REPENT!

I wonder how much of the doubling down on Agents and so on is because it provides a sense of productivity and power in a software development environment where it seems like you can work for decades without producing *anything* let alone anything of value. it's gotta be existentially crushing right?

can confirm after years working on behind the scenes stuff that rarely gets seen, cancelled projects, and apps where you never hear from the users after releasing so you don't even know if they EXIST, it starts to feel like all you're doing goes straight into the void
