Really enjoying the iPod’s album shuffle, but it definitely is reminding me just how *much* it’s got to shuffle! Actually pretty impressive the shuffle doesn’t take too long

my childhood ipod was a gift from my dad and loaded up with his entire music collection which he had done some compression/file fuckery so that it had over a hundred thousand songs on it. hitting shuffle made it crash

oh I COMPLETELY misremembered, the archive he threw at me a couple years ago was around that number, this ipod only (only) has 36900 songs on it

A "mere" 36900 songs, hahahaha Yeah, I was checking compatibility stuff for disk replacement, and it looks like I lucked out in that my iPod can do up to 50k songs without issues, but some models running into issues around 20k. Maybe that was the issue, and that model can't shuffle that many?
