interesting! but why? irc didn't require auth, except to optionally protect your username

Things like all messages being signed, cryptographic identity so you can't steal someone's identity in a net split, end to end encryption build in, and all sorts of stuff irc never did or got wrong.

irc is good for what it is - an insecure light weight text chat protocol. Freeq extends it to be more secure and appropriate for modern use cases.
