for a project the size of Godot, this is about as good as you can reasonably get. if you prohibit AI entirely, it'll just lead to people not disclosing it, which is worse for the engine in the long run. please consider the realities of maintaining a FOSS project this size before blasting them.

I see some concerns raised about Godot's policy on contributions using AI. TL;DR: Godot isn't vibe-coded. As a whole, the Godot foundation and maintainers are fairly critical of AI usage, and don't make nor accept vibe-coded contributions. Godot doesn't include AI features nor intends to add any.

Yep. As a more Pro-AI leftist, I always say AI is just a tool. The true core of the issue is how the top 1 percent of the wealthy (i.e., billionaires and out first trillionaire) hoard over 90% of the wealth while weaponizing their use of capital to pollute marginalized and vulnerable communities

(e.g., lobbying our government to construct AI Data Centers with zero environment regulations, propagandizing our global populations towards the far-right, etc.), not so much individual proletarian consumers who collectively own 2.5%-2.6% of all the wealth (if we were to include the bottom half

of our domestic US population). I generally have no problem with individuals who use LLMs to engage in the implementation phase of Software Development. Rather, I believe the solution is holding the bourgeois billionaires (and first trillionaire) accountable by taxing the rich. I don't believe

i say this as a vehement opponent of generative AI, by the way. policies like this are not written in a vacuum, and properly dealing with the realities of wider AI usage is extremely tough, even for individuals. given their track record, i trust the Godot maintainers are doing the best they can.

i think what people are forgetting is that if you 100% ban AI then there necessarily has to be a process to remove it. if a pr gets through that fixes something important thats found to be ai, in order to be consistent with this process, you have to go back and rip everything out, and redo the work

I mean. There are already obvious slop PRs that have been accepted. The idea that more stringent policies/culture lead to more people lying sounds unsubstantiated, and that aside, the positives of accepting minor usage sound pretty nil to me
