Thread. I've found Bluesky engaging, fun and *alive* since the first day I got here, in part because I went out of my way to engage with it, not just expect some algorithm to platform what I do. Also because, fundamentally, I'm here to be social, not just to market, and that has a long-term effect.

Worth noting that most of the people who say Bluesky is dead or useless are journalists, not organizers. Bluesky has been OUTSTANDING for me as an organizer. I've raised THOUSANDS of dollars here, gotten HUNDREDS of people to actual events, gotten LOADS of people to DO POLITICAL THINGS.

I sometimes feel a little snarky about people who declare this site dead, and want to say "skill issue, dude," but in all honesty my feed and my comments have always been hopping here, so... kinda a skill issue, maybe? Sure, I'm *known,* but a lot of these other dudes are equally known, so...?

I think you engage positively with your comments and the people in the community here. That doesn't mean you don't ban people who are being jerks or whatever, but if people come to you politely, in good faith and respectfully, you seem to return the same back to them, which is more than some.

Basically, yeah. I'm here to socialize and most people are cool, so it works out, and we all mostly have fun. The rare person who rolls up to start a fight finds themselves on the other side of the "don't engage, just block" wall pretty quickly.

I will admit, I have never understood the appeal of having a "conversation" just for the purpose of trying to start a fight. That's just not a useful or rewarding way to interact with people in my view. I would much rather work with people than against them, it's just better for everyone.
