Yes, I'm still trying to figure this one out 😔 I fear I will have to create my own keyboard component for mobile because the keydown event works poorly with virtual keyboards.

Honestly, not that fun on my laptop keyboard either, seems to throw me all over the place sometimes... but also not sure how I would recommend fixing it... Having to click every "next" box would be annoying... :-? Really, really cool, though! :-)

:-/ I changed a little how the keyboard worked, so the arrows are restricted to the paths. And when you type, it moves in order, which is natural for across words, but may be "jumpy" for down words as it doesn't move to the one below. Is this what you experience that throws you all over the place?

What exactly is 43 Down? Your answer key lists "ins", which doesn't make sense (the answer needs six letters, plus "ins" was already used for 84 Across) Nice puzzle, btw! Aside from 43 Down, I got all but 8 without looking things up. ^_^

Yes, that's it. I need to update the solution page... and possibly the wording for the hint. You completed it already, but if you got stuck, you could also inspect the code: the game works without JavaScript, so the correct answer is "hidden" in the pattern attribute.

Feature request: can you persist the answers in localStorage? That way one can revisit later on :)
