I do think it would be wildly hypocritical of them to constantly complain about government spending and the national debt and then celebrate these checks but they think hypocrisy is a flex so who knows.

I think a fair amount of them know that Trump could have done this at any point in the past year and a half and has not, so why would he do it now?

100%. Even voters who have the understanding necessary to make the connection probably aren’t going to do the value calculation in the middle of a poll. This is respondents actually answering whether they believe it will happen at all.
