it's pretty funny to see people on Bluesky watch You Can See Everything and go "wow, documentaries are always a construction and we can't take anything at face value," only to watch this one, very one-sided video and take it fully at face value

it's the kind of thing you'd expect out of a Harvard student - better to ask forgiveness than wait for permission to be granted. And then if you dodge the person, you can skip the asking forgiveness part. anything with Ross McElwee's name attached to it.. grrrr

I didn’t watch the video because I’m in a waiting room, but based on your description of what happened, saying he “stole” their footage in the post seems very misleading. That strongly implies that he used footage that someone else shot without credit/permission, not what’s alleged here

well, what she's alleging is that he was allowed to film the presentations in the conference, but not given access to the actual files of the footage that was presented at the conference. he somehow got those files. not clear how. if he stole them right off their computers, yeah, that's not great.

A reskeeter of this was asked in replies if one should still see YCSE, and they said "Up to you, but don't trust anything in it" which is funny because that is one of the main themes of the film itself.

Interesting to check in on Fielder Reddit, which seems to have concluded he did nothing wrong, otherwise she would have sued way back when, and also mitigation specialists are evil people who deserve NYT exposure and subsequent condemnation.
