Space heaters draw a lot of power. Most power strips are not designed to handle the amount of power a space heater needs. Power strips can get overloaded, meltdown, and cause a fire. Always best to plug your space heater directly into the wall.

Yeah, we did a lot of checking before getting one for our portable AC unit to be able to run it off the downstairs circuit because they apartment put the entire upstairs on a single 15A circuit. And 2 gaming systems + AC = tripped breaker. And we still regularly inspect the cord just to be sure.

Also a lot of small kitchen appliances. You can technically buy equipment designed to power heavy-draw devices at longer distances, BUT you pay more and you're taking the risk it isn't legit. I *still* feel weird enough trading OEM-from-box identical except length cables between my Instant Pots.

Probably also don’t plug space heaters into Texas, then. Same reason. Joking aside, though, I actually had no idea about the power strip thing, and would have assumed that integrated circuit breakers would mean they were safer than wall outlets in this regard.

Yeah, it makes sense now they’ve explained it, it just wouldn’t have occurred to me to even check. I think it’s partly cause I rarely need to plug in anything that needs more than USB power sources these days.
