In a world of Mr. Brocks, be a Mr. Rogers. We’re about to learn the hard way how relevant this post is…

Yep. Everyone thinks that if it is before Digital and cheap servers & disks, it's ancient history and can only be viewed through the lens of 'history.' Look around, there are plenty people for whom these periods were current events.

Exactly. These things are shockingly recent. A friend's parents signed paperwork affirming they were the same race when they married in North Carolina. The redlining is still being revised out of CC&Rs all around the country. And MAGA a-holes pretend not to know why we still need DEI programs.

So was my dad. We are only one generation removed that that. And I believe that was in N. FL, in my neck of the country. I think a lot it folks wanna go back to that period, sadly.

IMHO, people who think and act like Mr. Rogers, (also President and Mrs. Carter), left organized religion when too many churches drifted away from teaching love and acceptance. These Christians don’t announce their beliefs, they live them. 😊💖

When I was fairly young my grandma told me about when the local govt filled the public pools with concrete. It didn't occur to me why they did that until a few years ago when I read an article about it. Dammit, I want to moved forward, not backward.

Yeah, I was reading about the phenomenon and remembered when my grandma had mentioned it when I was young. My mother's school district in suburban Chicago wasn't officially desegregated until 1968 (I may be hazy on yhe details), the year before she graduated, and five years before I was born.

That’s why I have such a hard time when maga (esp my father) mentions the 50s and 60s as when America was great. It obviously wasn’t. They were mostly just children and sheltered. They’re smart enough to know that but refuse to see it.

We know about the atrocities perpetrated upon black people and others in the past, so how can we be surprised that many people today are also horrible?

The people who spoke at that hate rally at MSG made me feel like we were in 1964. Now they’re going to be running the country. America is going to regret missing the opportunity to move forward and away from MAGA extremism.
