I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

Incidentally it's wild simultaneously - how blatant Musk is he's motivated by revenge against the trans community for his belief we corrupted or stole away his child - how little the mainstream press notices that That human was "his"; a possession. It was taken away, when it thought for itself.

Remember, the Conservatives didn't do this; Labour did this. In Britain, Labour are the ones cloning Donald Trump's policies n trans folks. Cis folks, keep this in mind when trans folks blow our top at Democrats talking like Donald Trump on trans rights. We think you're turning into Labour.

The Supreme Court burns to the ground in Albania, Parliament and the Department of Education has been stormed, the Prime Minister is in hiding and the country is effectively in the hands of the rebels. Albania rejects blatant corruption and their country being sold.

i think the other two options here are "it's actually natural and good and the target of my disgust is the problem and not me" or "and that's why i am evil and a terrible person and will never go to metaphorical secular heaven" and.... guess which one feels better to choose

one of the positives of Woke 1 we probably shouldn't have thrown out is the "we all have some internalized prejudice" confessional piece we mostly stopped doing that because it hurts the feelings of the most fragile chuds afraid to introspect but the alternatives are worse

it makes my blood boil every time there’s a bullshit tech demo and everyone goes back to “oh that scamp elon has done it again” he’s a vicious monster out to ruin the lives of millions of people who don’t deserve any of it and he should be treated accordingly

The question "Is this condition overdiagnosed" is actually asking "Have we found an exceptional case of a medical issue where healthcare is too easy to get?" and the answer to that is always no. There has never, at any point, been a situation where it was too easy to get healthcare.

it turns out that “optimize for engagement” and “optimize for societal best outcomes” are opposing goals and if you look at the entire history of the tech industry you can see which of those two wins out

Denny Carter@dennycarter.bsky.social

Facebook back in 2021 temporarily turned off the “drive people insane” setting and it completely changed what people were seeing. They turned it back on when engagement dipped by like 1 percent.

I think it’s important for anyone who (completely understandably) checked out on AI the second the crypto/nft/metaverse/snake oil chuds started pushing it to realize that, in at least the domain of software development, we are very much living in a scenario where the snake oil actually works

personally think if the line is going to be “no gen ai in anything” then the you might have to consider divesting from AAA games entirely because this is just what the industry is now, whether they admit it so publicly or not

chatbots are really good if you want someone to tell you all your ideas are genius, all your metaphors are perfect, and all of your vague intuitions are completely on point
