This might surprise you, but everyone should be clear about how this works. Even though Eric Swalwell suspended his campaign, California law doesn’t just pull names off the ballot. Once you qualify, you’re on it. That’s the problem. 1/2

Well that sucks. Now we have another reason why ranked choice isn't that great. Ranked choice is the easiest way for the GOP to make sure their barking mad Pervert lovers will only face mediocre opponents both Republican and Democrat. Why? Because of "Purity Points" from the DNC.

CA doesn’t have ranked choice voting but a “jungle primary” which means it’s one primary for all the parties and the top 2 of whatever party move on. Ranked choice would solve this problem actually, I believe.

Before the election, he could potentially endorse one of the other candidates. Now given he’s embroiled and scandal it’s unclear if that would help or hurt that candidate, but there’s nothing that can be done with votes cast for Swalwell in the election.

Ballots are already printed, I believe ballots have already been sent to military and overseas voters. They couldn't pull his name off at this point if they wanted to. This is a fucking nightmare is what this is.

Everybody has a right to have their voices and ideas heard. But they actually need to have a chance of winning to get on the ballot. This is one of the reasons I don’t particularly like ranked-choice voting. It makes #Democrats feel good, but now #California might have a #Republican governor fuck.

You might be right. I don’t fully understand California’s election rules; I’m basing my view on what the media and Stephanie Miller say. #Democrats need to stop expecting our candidates to be perfect. We should always vote blue regardless of the candidate. It’s still better than a #republican.

California's primary is set up so that while Dems could collectively get the most votes, that vote could be split by multiple candidates so that only Republicans end up in the general. It's totally different from an RCV system, and "vote blue no matter who" isn't the solution.

If voters aren’t paying attention, they can end up voting for someone who isn’t even actively running, splitting the Democratic vote, the Dem candidates get shut out of the general and we end up with only the two republican candidates in November.

Well then the California Democratic Party better get a very strong ad and direct mail campaign going to help ensure that 2 republicans aren't the only choice in the special election.

Why won’t the Republicans split their own vote? Two Republicans are on the ticket. Are only Democrats allowed to split their votes?

Whenever I see a new scandal breaking like this, I instantly flashback to past scandals & try to imagine how the current villain felt watching those others fall? Did he actually think "Oh those guys are actually terrible. That's not me at all"? Or did he live in fear of when his day would come?

As far as I can recall, past scandals involved guys with big egos. And my problem with Swalwell (whom I supported for his stands on key issues) was always his ego.

He should hold a press conference asking people NOT to vote for him and vote for another Democrat. And hopefully, one finishes in the top 2. But he won't.

There are too many Dems on the California ballot already which will split the vote. So even though more Democrats vote democratic than Republicans vote Republican it is possible Democrats will be shut out as the two with the most votes move to the general.

I just can't figure out what it is going to take for people to realize that the GOP can not be trusted at any level of government. None. Nada. That people still even consider voting for any of their candidates astounds me.

our political system encourages the worst people to seek public office...it's party neutral...shitty people are on both sides that's what we need to fix...Citizens United is probably a good place to start...then we need to reform laws around stock trading and post-public service employment

Re Becerra, he's got some skeletons to address With his lengthy political presence, how did he only get 6% of the LA vote? Why did he threaten 'legal action' re exposing dirty cops? As a native of CA, I've witnessed decades of gridlock & amazing success. CA governance requires intense skills.

Dems need to rally around Katie Porter and Xavier Bacerra, there are a bunch of troll candidates listed as Dems including someone who changed their name to Barrack Obama

Wow. That's insane! Folks will still vote for him not knowing? Crazy. This election is fucked. Where are the rich Democrats at? You better start supporting ONE candidate! Donate. Or you will lose California in a really stupid way. Vote for X.

Dems had better start running ads to educate the voters and let them know that they should not even place one vote for him or Dems may lose.

California, you do not want a MAGA governor! A vote for Becerra just helps elect Hilton. Steyer & Porter are now at the top of the Dems. Billionaires aren't OK by me in govt, so that leaves Porter. Not ideal, but no one is. Please vote for someone who can get in the top 2! Don't

With 2 GOP and about 8 Dems on the ballot, the top two regardless of party will be the choice in November. CA may be choosing between 2 GOP for Gov. Katie Porter has not taken AIPAC money and was an excellent congresswoman. Hopefully she will have enough votes to be one of the top two.

Why wasn't Swalwell vetted prior to this? It's not like there is only one accusation. Surely someone in Dem political circles must have been aware of these accusations. SMH.

Trouble with RCV is it puts your second choice half way between first and third. That might not be reflective of how you feel, which may then discourage some from voting at all. STAR (score then automatic runoff) is the way to go: www.starvoting.org
