This Doc Rivers clip reminds me: I say this all the time. Back in the day, Black folks who could vote, voted for their survival, not perfection. They chose the best option for them. NO KINGS‼️🧵

💯 agree. My first choice candidates often do not survive the primary. Do I sit it out - I do not! In the general, I door knock / postcard / volunteer as much as possible and vote for the best choice. Democrats Please Vote ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸

Never sit it out. Primaries should be dynamic and even annoyingly combative. That's fine. Politics can be about fighting. Once the Primaries are over, then we fight the GOP with everything we have. I once voted in NYC with 11% turnout and helped prevent Giuliani from getting a 3rd term.

Today, I hear some folks say they won’t vote because they disagree with a Democrat on ONE issue, even when the alternative is a Republican. Sitting it out is self-destructive. NO KINGS‼️ 🚨 iwillvote.com

Democrats that have decided not to vote are voting for Trump by proxy. 👉 They did this in 2024 and learned nothing. “There’s no way to justify not voting” for their fellow Democratic candidates. At this point in our political state, Democrats who don’t vote - it’s UnAmerican, in my opinion.

But the fraud felon isn't on the ballot. Nor will any vote make him leave. I fear people are letting polls blind them to boots-on-the-ground reality. The GOP became a cult, not a political party. Cults rely on vilifying reality to sustain power, not just over adherents but to make others skeptical.

Think of it in these terms: If the Democrat doesn’t meet your standard of perfection, which candidate will hurt you and the ones you love the least? Kill you and yours less. Vote for that candidate. Not perfect. But it’s voting for your survival. NO KINGS‼️

Great stuff!👍 I’m British, so I have no experience of the American voting-system as such, but - a vote can be for a direction of travel and not necessarily for a destination.

Also, spend time, once they're in office, mailing them and telling them in person what things they need to do to make things better.

Politics is and has always been a pragmatic endeavor. The smart people hold their noses and vote for the candidate who they know will harm THEM the least. We are experiencing a time when too many voters focus on electing the candidate they believe will hurt others more.

Those with enough power and privilege that they don't need to vote for their own survival sure as hell aren't going to vote on behalf of those who do, especially on the red side of the spectrum.

I fear we'll be disappointed in midterm results because we think the felon's poor approval translates to R rejection. He has spent YEARS projecting fake "Biden crime family" etc just so the visceral reaction to his crimes is, "They all do it." Starr & Rove mastered the D vilification for same reason

I saw a video that compared voting to public transportation: Choose the candidate who will get you the closest to your desired “destination”…. A candidate may not tick ALL your boxes but, most likely, they will get you closer to your vision of America . Vote. 🗳️ We need you.

If you are voting by mail and have access to secure drop boxes in your municipality, use them to drop off your completed ballot and avoid the post office. Complete your ballot and drop it off at your nearest secure drop box this weekend.

My argument is that you're not voting just bc of that candidate on your ballot. You're voting for a majority that will empower other reps that are more aligned w/ your views. Not every district can have an AOC, but a dem majority will elevate AOC & others like her.

That's precisely how we got into the jam we're in at this moment. BTW..my dear cousin voted as a single issue voter and she's heartbroken that she didn't widen her horizons at that time. Lesson learned the hard way.

Purity tests are luxuries. It virtually guarantees that the choice those people make lead to abstention. The people we vote for are representatives. Yet to meet a perfect one of those anywhere.

You would hope after 2024, people would have learned this lesson. Sitting out because a candidate doesn’t believe/do everything you want is crazy. Which party comes through for ALL Americans; it sure isn’t the MAGA party.

I love the idea of dressing to vote as a kind visible acknowledgement of its importance. Thank you for sharing this memory of your mother. I was very moved by this conversation.

I'm responding to Christopher Webb's remarks about watching his mother vote as he was growing up as part of his conversation with Nicole Wallace on MSNow.

I encountered a self-declared RINO before the general election who said they were going to 'sit it out'. I asked why not *vote against* the guy they couldn't support and got a blank look like, 'me? vote for a black woman?'. When someone shows you who they are...

The Democratic Party is far from perfection, but it's a start. We'll be better able to eliminate the traitors within our *own* ranks, once we regain a foothold. An overall accounting is coming for EVERYONE.

We used to vote as a family when we were all registered at the same place. Go vote together, then dinner and arguing about it. Mom has never revealed who she votes for, "That's my business." "Anyone who voted for George Bush is a giant pussy."--Dad. We knew where he stood.
