4 decades ago the Federalist Society was created to destroy the fabric of the most successful democratic nation in history. It was a reaction to civil rights and the regulatory system that had built the middle class. They wanted unrequited wealth. They won. Now everybody’s miserable, even them. Yay

Hey as things get worse what would be extra great would be to merge companies that can squeeze out every twentysomething's side hustle and make sure they can't afford healthcare.

DoorDash is in advanced talks to acquire Instacart parent Maplebear for roughly $17 billion, according to people familiar with the matter

Actually beginning to think that Trump's new strategy is simply to halt all governing in America after the midterms. Think he or the people around him have figured out that people are not going to buy that this election is rigged.

OMFG Maher was on his knees for Trump on FRIDAY. He had Karoline Leavitt on his show. And what does Maher get? A five page diatribe on what a loser and dickhead he is. A broken clock etc.

For clarity: the only thing criminals understand is prison. Not losing an election. Not people being angry with them. Prison.

I worked for Harvey Weinstein. From experience terror is more complicated than you think. There’s an excitement that comes when you’re on the wrong side. You know it, you want out, but it’s also a rush that makes you look away from your core. When it ends it happens fast. The hangover is intense.

The thing about fury is it freaks out people who simply chose not to believe. They make their complicity very personal. They’re told they should. Maybe yes, maybe no. But the backlash brings perspective and resilience. The next steps are hard. They involve relearning. But we gave away everything.

When the crimes are outed you’re relieved. It gives you back life. But even the things you don’t know (that’s a lot of things) you really want to vanquish. Not in a “finally” way. In a “we have to furiously scrub it away.” Thats what #MeToo was. BLM. Those things will reemerge. It’s good.

We are on the cusp of giving away everything we have controlled and taken for granted for 80 years.

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

One may be forgiven to think that when people are genuinely offered unencumbered access to their choice of leaders they choose democratic freedoms, reject authoritarianism and then are filled with joy.

I am shaking. My blood pressure is off the roof. I’ve been crying for two hours. Oh my god. Oh my god. My people, oh my god.

We’re faced with deeply invasive and privately controlled AI, indebted governments, fascist algorithms, unaffordable housing and decreasing opportunities for young people. This is the best time to surge investments in public higher ed. Both finance existing schools and build many new ones.

Karl Jacoby@karl-jacoby.bsky.social

The soaring costs of public universities is a political decision. When these schools predominantly served white students, they tended to be free (UC, CCNY, etc.) But as the number of students of color has increased, funding for the public universities has decreased. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/b...

To say the obvious - it is so much cheaper than war and tax breaks. You believe in capitalism? Then you believe in competition. The reason schools are expensive include a lack of supply. We need to encourage risk for higher rewards.

BTW and FFS this is such an obvious political winner. It is pathetic how little education writ large is ignored altogether by our political classes on both sides.

One of the main reasons we are facing the hellscape of now is that we have defunded opportunity. Wouldn’t you turn away from promised personal debt without any promised returns? With immorality and simple failure brought by AI we see the need for a deep, insightful liberal arts ed more than ever.

Look around at communities throughout the nation. Young people stream into cities more than ever because the aging population of underserved communities stuck with corporate restaurants and Walmarts are so dispiriting. Fight against the morass and build new schools there. Bring life. Build balance.

Elon Musk admits closing Starlink ‘loophole’ in rant against ‘warmongers’: 'Burn in hell' #RawStory

Every Democrat running for national office must commit to this. Make em defend this. And then make them defend it again at the Supreme Court. The point of pardon power has completely been lost. Time for it to go.

Brandon Friedman@brandonfriedman.bsky.social

Do not recognize pardons granted to unindicted individuals. Democrats must make it clear — well before inauguration of the next president — that Trump administration staff will be investigated and potentially prosecuted regardless.

As the 2028 election is shaping up to be the first election in modern times to actually be about democracy itself (it was bullshit in 2024) presidential candidates need to talk about reducing the power of the executive branch. Make a congressional trade: more power for them with gerrymandering ban.

Donald Trump has spent the entirety of 2026 doing everything possible to subvert the elections. He has conducted a war with neither approval nor transparency. He has continued illegal tariffs. He has killed 300 fishermen. He has threatened Canada, Greenland, Ukraine and Cuba. Still 2 months to go.

Andy Craig@andycraig.bsky.social

That it'll fail because they lack sufficient consolidation and centralized control does not make it trivial that the president of the United States is trying to steal elections and produce an illegitimate sham Congress. It is open rebellion against the Constitution and morally tantamount to treason.

It's brazenly corrupt to pretend to be the arbiter of peace between RU and UKR while in fact getting into private business with one side and your family members. Also every oligarch pays Putin a significant cut at all times. Trump can't stop being mad at Ukraine bombing refineries. Go figure.

Overall, we are seeing some very odd deal talks that are supposedly a part of ending the war in Ukraine. But in fact evidence shows these deals are structured (in the most recent case secretly until now) to financially benefit Russia or business partners of the Trump and Witkoff families.
