Had to rig my hvac to get it to work. My furnace is old as hell. But I’m probably the only person in my building by with a smart thermostat because I know nobody else would’ve taken the time to figure it out.

i got a smart thermostat (ecobee) cause they can make your house more efficient, plus my energy provider had an amazing rebate — also wanted to be able to ask siri/homekit to control and advance automate it

We got an ecobee a few years back and at the time my kid’s concept of the biggest number was “100 degrees” so he would yell at Siri to “turn it to 100 degrees” and she would do it

I went with an Emerson Sensi Touch unit. They work with Siri/homekit and the US Energy providers. Since they also build the air handlers and power distribution systems for Data Centers, I figured it was a safe bet. Solid two years now.

i have one of these sitting on a shelf that i haven’t installed because my old house is missing a wire… and like what, i’m just supposed to fish a new wire down the wall like a pro?

Depends which wire you're missing. IIRC, the five wires are power, ground, heat, cooling, and fan. The fan one is often missing, and either heat or cooling could be missing if you don't have it on a thermostat.
