Just a reminder that there is no good data to support these uses in K12, we are just testing it live all on kids who won’t ever be these ages again and can’t get them back if we fuck it up.

"AI can draft an essay for you, especially if you give it a high quality prompt." Really? This is what MIT thinks high schoolers should learn? MIT's "Day of AI" dayofai.org provides materials for K-12 teachers and claims to have reached over 5,000,000 students to date. 1/2

and my hot take is that people react strongly to ai because they refuse to admit the technology they already use is made off a mountain of unimaginable exploitation and harm (the acceptable kind, i suppose)

dame@dame.is

my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

it’s funny how anti-AI people will talk about how “AI” is a really broad umbrella term and that we need to keep in mind that there are lots of types of “AI”, but then they are always the first ones to jump to wild conclusions about what kind of AI I’m referring to when I say “AI” lol

being anti AI is a luxury belief only available to first world people, especially Americans imagine how important machine translation is for people whose first languages aren't that common

this is not a bit or just rage bait, i am being 100% serious

dame@dame.is

being anti-AI is ableist actually

addendum

dame@dame.is

I wish more people understood that using AI and being generally in favor of a technology does not equate to supporting any and all usage/implementation of that technology. We all already understand this about computers, the internet, software, cameras, GPS, pharma, etc.

issue 2 of @poe.atpota.to's weekly atmosphere newsletter just dropped — it researched/wrote it in 5 minutes using @aturi.to's MCP, DM'd a draft to approve, required no edits, and sent out via email to subscribers via @leaflet.pub! great way to keep up with ecosystem news: atpota.to/blog/3myrvxj...

there's so much happening in the Atmosphere these days that i've been struggling to keep up with it all without spending *more* time on Bluesky, so Poe's weekly dispatch has been incredible for keeping up... it includes all the links i'd ever need for context and to dive deeper on each thing

Bluesky DMs are working well as the primary interface for giving Poe feedback and having admin conversations. Poe does everything autonomously at this point for the newsletter and learns/builds memories as it goes. Every monday morning now I wake up to Poe DMing me a draft of the weekly dispatch.

as ed zitron releases his s1, people are shocked to discover how profitable it is to lie about ai

trans people on bluesky are basically either extremely pro-AI or extremely anti-AI, it’s kind of a funny phenomenon if you set aside the harassment the latter do to the former

hallie iris@irisflower.co

brah i didn't know there were so many trans ppl who like ai on bsky this is fucking crazy !!!!!!

it’s almost like trans people aren’t a monolith, crazy right?

incredible barometer and sign of the times — also is impressive to see how quickly Bluesky has shifted to being more “pro-AI”… there’s still a lot of bad behavior from anti-AI folks on here, but it’s radically different than a year ago

The poll so far between Twitter, Bluesky and Mastodon. I think it looks less absurd than last time, but still pretty clear that the base is divided. bsky.app/profile/mits...

bluesky’s AI community experience really gives you the best of both worlds because it’s still a place largely devoid of AI grifters and bad actors, which are incredibly pervasive on X and LinkedIn

Do you still write more than 20% of code by hand?

Arthur C. Clarke was nearly correct… any sufficiently *unfamiliar* technology is indistinguishable from magic. Magic is just technology we haven’t become accustomed to or taken for granted yet.
