jesus this hank green ai drama is so sad and bleak, the dude is using AI in extremely sane and safe and reasonable ways, and so many of his fans are just on a purity crusade over it here’s a recent reddit post and hank’s reply

dame@dame.is

it’s worse than i thought… Hank’s audience merely heard him use a phrase in a video they thought *sounded* like AI, but it was just him adlibbing after viewers pointed it out, he clarified it wasn’t an AI line, but explained that he does use AI in the research process! then the pile on begin bleak

I'm a big fan of Hank Green as an example of a thoughtful person on the internet, so I don't want this to come off as dunking. but i'm reminded of an essay i wrote in response to one of his videos, where he said: "Slurs are a tool that help you hate. And so we should shun the use of the tool."

I pointed out, (among many things, my writing isn't particularly cogent), that lots of things can be characterized as tools that help you hate. In particular, "Creating a large following on social media is a tool that can help you or your followers hate" so which tools do we shun?

while I value what you're trying to say here, I think the inaccuracy in your original critique comes from the fact that, while language and community CAN BECOME tools that help someone hate, they don't HAVE to be, whereas slurs are much more likely to be tools of hate. on the flip side, though-
