Here's the thing: there is no going back to a different era of Twitter. This doesn't replace it, Threads doesn't replace it, Twitter doesn't replace it. That era is dead, no return, it was a very fun 5-10 year window or so that dragged on past its prime until it dropped off a cliff.

maybe im doing it wrong but i feel like the various crises of 2026 have revealed the limitations of this platform for me. twitter was always invaluable to me in chaotic times bc you had a lot of subj matter expert weirdos coming out of the woodwork. just dont feel like there's a much of that here rn

I agree with this, but also refuse to believe people don’t want a place where ideas get shared widely. It’s easy to look at the landscape and forget that the reason it sucks is because of some truly terrible business decisions / bad intentions. Dunno if this is the place, but not giving up hope

Sure, hence the ascent of TikTok & Reels. Unfortunately tapping little thoughts into a little box isn't where that's happening anymore. There's a reason this site's average age is nearly 40.

As one of the, I've come to realize very few, very early 20s user on this site, this is spot on. Hell, I'm yet to meet anyone here that's younger than me. I think another factor is that sites that have an older demographic lean tend to get youth flight, which is very much the case with bsky.

Why? Because of something I can only describe as perceived uncoolness, mostly made of: Lack of a shared generational sense of humor, lack of content regarding interests, and in the case of bsky, most people either don't know about it or has a rep for being home to the most annoying breed of leftist.
