Any future accession will require the UK to commit to joining the euro For how long will either the EU or UK voters be convinced by a PM saying that Britain is acting completely sincerely signing up to this commitment while also recommending that we never join?

Also FoM is a red line for the EU and I don't think the Euro or Schengen would be.

What part isn't true? Countries in the EU have committed to join the euro and all accession countries since its introduction have been required to make that commitment The only counter example is Denmark's legacy opt out

Denmark is an important counter-example! When an opt out was necessary it was granted, as it was to the UK. But also other EU countries have chosen not to join while theorerically signed up. And Ireland has a Schengen opt-out.

Sweden is the more relevant counter-example here. Unlike 🇩🇰,🇸🇪doesn't have an opt-out from the Euro. But they stay out of it by pretending to not be eligible to join ERMII 🇬🇧could easily do the same thing. So why would 🇪🇺force them to sign a potentially toxic promise to join when it's not enforceable?
