Wait, is Atmosphere another name for BSky's Protocol? Does "ATProto" stand for "Atmosphere Protocol"? How am I JUST learning this?

Atmosphere refers to all the apps and people that use ATProto! ATProto is the tech, and Atmosphere is the ecosystem around it! I think ATProto stands for Authenticated Transfer Protocol, which doesn’t sound very fun lol

Oh! I think I totally put the carriage in front of the horse in this one, whoops. Even still, I think it's cool how the ATProto Ecosystem has such a slick and stylish name, and that "Atmosphere" adds an extra pun to ATProto. Authenticated Transfer Atmosphere @

Someone explain what this is and why I should use it, please.

Here’s an explainer but the tldr is that you already use it cause you use bluesky, the flagship atmosphere app! You can use your Bluesky to log into any atmosphere app, no new accounts! Atmosphere apps integrate well with each other since they all use the same tech! lab.leaflet.pub/3mrq6ma5dgs2x

This doesn't say anything about what "Atmosphere" is??? Also why is the official @bsky.app account retweeting something outside the app? Do users need this to continue using Bluesky? Do we want this? Would we want it if we had any idea what it is?

Bsky is in of a family of apps called the Atmosphere! You already use the Atmosphere bc you use Bsky Using Atmosphere apps is great bc you can log into all of them with Bsky, no new accounts + they integrate with each other bc they run on the same tech! Explainer👇 lab.leaflet.pub/3mrq6ma5dgs2x

Also, Bluesky and other Atmosphere apps aren’t part of the same company! They just use the same tech! It’s like how phone carriers all use the same telecom tech, but they’re all different companies! Bluesky is retweeting not to support a parent company, but to lift the ecosystem it’s a part of!

Great video!

Yeah I looove your video I have it saved so I can show it to people when I’m explaining things to them it really helps I think!

Am back home now, so can reply properly. To @brookie.blog: YOUR video inspired me to do one geared more toward the bookish community (& those familiar with me)! I saw your video in @leaflet.pub @cozylittle.house's explainer post: lab.leaflet.pub/3mrq6ma5dgs2x
