The US is not a member of ICC. Nor are China, Israel, Russia, or India. On Feb 7, Trump imposed sanctions on ICC by EO, citing the court's actions against Israel and "preliminary investigations" of US personnel that "set a dangerous precedent." (Those investigations were dropped years ago.)

I am genuinely curious because based on my limited understanding, isn't the legal system an independent branch of the overall government of a country as part of check and balance? But I also think both sides should put forth their details to justify their decisions.

McConnell is also the reason we have the SCOTUS we do. He’s to blame for RvW being overturned and for the IMUNNITY decision with is allowing the executive branch to make excuses for this and for enabling it in the first place.

I respectfully disagree. The Constitutional crisis began when the Roberts court guaranteed Presidential immunity, followed by Mump's election. The guardrails are off, the lawlessness of the executive branch is in full display, and we are in the midst of a full-blown Constitutional crisis.
