this may run counter to your thinking, which is why I'll suggest it to challenge you: a webwide login should use the Bluesky icon and name, not "atmosphere". Facebook logins never changed to Meta- I think it will be hard to build trust with a "faceless" service as a universal account.

I won't challenge your optimism on growing and expanding the atmosphere but the fact of the matter is that we've had Webwide logins for a long time now and they've never been anything but services that people directly engage with a lot and have, like, something to them. ppl know what they look like

if it were up to me, I'd put Bluesky on the main buttons for the foreseeable future- then secondary screens can prominently indicate "Bluesky is powered by the Atmosphere. Click to login with an alternative Atmosphere service account". if another service rises to match bsky in users, THEN you can

move to an atmosphere-neutral button. it's not "fair" for other players right now but bluesky can make that up on the back end by promoting its own alternatives from within the app.

Meh Bluesky is still small enough I strongly disagree. There are now many users who aren't even using Bluesky (neither for hosting, client, AppView, lexicon, etc); this will only grow. Suggesting they login with Bluesky would make no sense.

This was an excellent writeup, thanks I'm building something that I want to integrate with the atmosphere and this made it feel a lot less scary
