People rightfully dunk on the "special edition" Star Wars, but those are mostly trivial, if annoying, changes. It's nothing compared to, say, *digitally removing all the guns from E.T.* because George Lucas isn't psychotic like Steven Spielberg.

The fact that we as a culture think of George Lucas as the weird one is a testament to how effective Steven Spielberg is at building and maintaining his brand. That guy is a maniac!

Lucas: "My space adventure is directly inspired by the Viet Cong heroically defeating the American empire." Spielberg: "What if the evil billionaire from the dinosaur book is actually a nice guy who just wants everyone to have a fun time?"

I will say that the film Hammond seemed to lurch wildly from a whimsical grandfather who only wanted to share the joy of his creations to ruthless capitalist who would knife grandma for the inheritance but learning more about Walt Disney and Stan Lee proved those aren't necessarily contradictory

As visually awesome as the film is, I still like the book storyline better. Gennaro as a character who is supposed to be the first one to object and shut things down but is too cowardly to actually do dirty work was a much better character than "happy capitalist lawyer joke eaten by T. Rex."
